Prep
1 is a prerequisite for Class 1 because it affects
everything that's done during that Class.
Because
Prep 1 is a "focus test", you need to work carefully
and follow
all of the directions.
If
any directions are not followed,
you will need to complete a Follow-up
(up to 3 hours or more).
Throughout
the 6 days before your Class 1, space
your Prep 1 time exactly as shown below.
On each of the 6 days, send
a blank email (to above email) with the subject line containing
your full name and the #letter of the Step you start with
that day (e.g. "1A" for Step below video).
STEP
1A: Watch
this video clip and consider the following:
>
With driving, your focused "seeing-thinking-doing"
can save you from needing to spend time dealing with the follow-up
for a crash.
>
With Prep 1, your focused "seeing-thinking-doing"
can save you from needing to spend time dealing with the follow-up
for any errors.
STEP
2A: Review
the course information in the boxes below. If anyone else is paying
for any part of your course, ask them to also review it.
Parts
1-2-3: The Course consists of 3 Parts. Each Part
has a Class Prep (30 minutes per day for 6 days)
followed by a Class (3 hours). Each Prep is a prerequisite
for its Class and it affects everything that's done during
the Class. For each Prep or Class that is not completed as
required by ICBC, a Follow-up is necessary and it can take
3 hours or more to complete.
Photo
Records: Each time that you hand in coursework, take a
photo of your work beside the class attendance sheet for the
hand-in day. Keep all of your photo records for 1 year.
Outdoor
Activities: Each Class has many outdoor activities (even
if it is raining or cold). Before coming to each Class, check
the hourly weather forecast and bring an umbrella if
there is any chance of rain. If there's any chance that you
will feel cold outdoors, wear a warm jacket.
Missed
Activities: The course includes a reserved seat for 3 classes.
If you are absent for any class activities, you can return
to future classes and stand by to see if someone with a reservation
doesn't attend; however, when you are standby, you may not
have enough time to complete all of the class activities within
ICBC's one year time limit for GLP Courses.
ICBC
Course Document: If you complete Parts 1-2-3 and the car
Lessons within 1 year, you will receive an ICBC
Course Document for two Grade 11 credits. If you give
the document to ICBC before the start of your first road
test, your N-stage time requirement will be reduced by
6 months if you have no driving prohibitions, driving
violations with demerit points, or at-fault crashes while
you are an N-driver.
Course
Dynamics: Some of the course dynamics are based on the
instructor's experiences with Greyhound, Vancouver Police
Department, Canada Safety Council, Justice Institute of BC
(Pacific Traffic Education Center), Young Drivers of Canada,
BC Ministry of Attorney General (Corrections Branch), Lower
Mainland Public Schools, Westcoast College, Vancouver Community
College, Dalhousie University, and Class 2-3-4-5-6 vehicles.
STEP
3A: Do
the following to print the current worksheet:
Clear your browser history and refresh
this webpage.
Right-click image below on a PC, or
Control-click on a Mac.
Select "Save Image As..."
and choose location to save image.
Select "Save".
Open saved image and print
it on a sheet of letter-size paper.
Ensure your worksheet fills the sheet
as shown below.
STEP
4A: Do
the Colors Exercise at the redredredred.red website, then do
the following on the worksheet's applicable
lines
(use a pen and work
neatly throughout the worksheet because it's for ICBC):
>
Print your first and last name.
>
Print your
color.
>
Print the #letter of the Step you started with today, then
each day you work on Prep 1, print
the #letter of the Step you start with that day.
STEP
5A: Find
a driver
who has been in a crash while sitting in the driver's seat and ensure
they have never been interviewed by you (for another Class Prep)
or anyone else (for their Class Prep).
On
scrap paper (size of area at bottom of worksheet), describe
driver's crash and draw
a diagram of the crash scene. Refer
to each vehicle as a letter (see example below) and use
"A" for the interviewed driver.
Ensure
description and diagram are easy to understand because someone else
will be presenting your work during Class 1.
Ask
the driver to go to redredredred.red and do
the Colors Exercise, then write
their color after the crash description.
From your
rough draft on scrap paper, transfer
the info and image so they neatly fill the blank area at the bottom
of the worksheet.
STEP
6A: To prepare for some crash discussions,
read each File and its
Motor Vehicle Act Sections (tap links in File).
STEP
7A: Skim Chapters
1-2-3-4 to get a sense of the
Class 1 topics.
STEP
8A: Remember
these 2 qualities of an X-Fact:
>
You didn't know the fact.
>
As a driver, you will need to know the fact.
STEP
9A: Be aware
of the following:
>
For each fact source that you explore in
Steps 10A13A, you need to find
its most important X-Fact and summarize
the fact with 3 words.
>
With the fact, "Adjust your head restraint so the top is
at least level with the top of your head", you could print
"head", "restraint", and "top".
>
During Class 1,
be
prepared to refer to any set of 3 words on your worksheet and
express those words as a complete fact.
STEP
